A former security contractor who claimed experience working alongside federal protective teams has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in San Francisco, according to authorities. The suspect, Nation Wood, had previously shared photos with public officials, including former Vice President Kamala Harris, drawing additional public attention to the case.

Police said Wood, 25, was taken into custody Wednesday, one day after officers responded to a reported shooting in the city’s Sunset District. Authorities said they arrived at a residence around 10:43 p.m. Tuesday and discovered Samantha Emge, 22, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders transported Emge to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Investigators collected evidence at the scene and arrested Wood on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter. Officials confirmed he was booked into county jail and remained in custody as of Friday. Authorities emphasized that the investigation is ongoing as detectives continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Wood described himself on LinkedIn as a part-time security professional who worked with protective teams connected to former President Joe Biden beginning in November 2023. His profile indicated he continued security-related work into 2025 during the administration of Donald Trump.

According to his profile, Wood served as an “independent pre-event site security advisor,” conducting advance assessments and walkthroughs for events involving high-profile attendees. He also claimed to coordinate alongside the United States Secret Service. However, a Secret Service spokesperson later confirmed that Wood had never been employed by the agency, and authorities have not identified any formal affiliation between him and federal protective services.

Wood graduated from San Francisco State University in 2024 with a degree in political science and government, according to his LinkedIn profile. He also listed experience working as a property manager at a self-storage facility.

Emge, who graduated from San Francisco State University in 2025, worked in interior design, according to her LinkedIn profile. Friends and social media posts suggested she and Wood were in a relationship, with photos showing the pair together on multiple occasions, including a trip to Yosemite National Park following her graduation.

Alan Wong, who represents the district where the shooting occurred, said early information suggests the incident may not have been intentional. Authorities have not released further details, and the case remains under active investigation
