It seems that there is always some sort of controversy surrounding one or more members of the left-wing congressional group known as “The Squad.”
That trend continued overnight as well, following reports involving the husband of Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.).
Boston homicide detectives are investigating after a body was discovered Saturday at a two-unit rental property in the city’s Mattapan neighborhood that is owned by Pressley’s husband.
The Boston Police Department said officers were dispatched to the property shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday after receiving a call to investigate a person.
Upon arriving at the residence, officers discovered a deceased person. The death remains under investigation by Boston homicide detectives, the New York Post reported.
The incident at the seven-bedroom property on Malta Street is being investigated as a death investigation, Boston Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Det. John Boyle told the Boston Globe.
Property records reviewed by the New York Post indicate the home is owned by Pressley’s husband, Conan Harris.
The Globe reported that the property was assessed at more than $919,000 this year.
A neighbor identified only as Cherill told the Globe that Boston police raided the property approximately two months ago.
According to Cherill, tenants occupied both units of the building at the time of the raid, including several high school-aged teenagers.
She added that, aside from that incident, the Mattapan neighborhood has remained relatively quiet during the 10 years she has lived there.
It is unclear whether anyone was living at the property when the body was discovered. The home was listed for sale about a month ago.
According to records previously reported by the New York Post, the two-unit property generated between $50,000 and $100,000 in rental income for the couple last year.
Chloe Turner, the real estate agent listing the property, told the Globe that the same tenants had lived there for some time but said she had no information about the events that occurred Saturday.
Pressley has been a prominent advocate for expanded housing assistance, including participating in a Capitol protest calling for federally funded rent relief.
She camped out on the Capitol steps advocating for rent relief that would have been funded by taxpayers.
Financial disclosure reports filed last year indicated that Pressley reported assets totaling as much as $8 million, placing her among the wealthiest members of Congress alongside fellow “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
Republican National Committee spokesperson Kiersten Pels previously criticized Pressley, telling the New York Post, “Pressley is a hypocrite who preaches socialism while pocketing millions.”
Meanwhile, her husband, Harris, previously spent 10 years in prison on a drug trafficking conviction.
Also, a former ‘Squad’ Democrat is attempting to regain a seat in Congress after losing a primary in 2024, but she is facing new questions about a lingering financial scandal.
And she hasn’t managed to answer new questions about it very effectively.
Former Rep. Cori Bush is facing renewed scrutiny in her campaign to regain Missouri’s 1st Congressional District after questions surfaced about money raised for tornado relief through an organization with limited publicly available financial disclosures.
The issue has become a point of contention in the Democratic primary, with Bush repeatedly declining to answer detailed questions about the organization, saying she is unable to discuss it.
The controversy centers on Politivist Power, an organization Bush promoted in the aftermath of the devastating tornadoes that struck the St. Louis area earlier this year.
Following the storms, Bush sent fundraising emails encouraging supporters to donate to tornado relief through the group.
According to an investigation by local outlet KSDK, the emails stated that donations would be used to assist those affected by the disaster while noting that the contributions were not affiliated with Bush’s former campaign committee or her Politivist Action PAC.
KSDK reported that it was unable to locate a publicly available IRS Form 990 for Politivist Power, the annual tax filing that many nonprofit organizations are generally required to submit.
