GOP Senator Provides Grim Update On Mitch McConnell

There’s been another chilling update on Kentucky GOP Sen. Mitch McConnell.

Several top Republicans were asked about McConnell’s condition, and their responses were not reassuring.

Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville is calling for more information about McConnell’s prolonged absence from the Senate.

Louisiana GOP Sen. John Kennedy urged people to “leave Mitch alone” as questions about the Kentucky Republican’s health persist.

“Somebody needs to do something,” Tuberville told Fox News Digital. “Somebody needs to come out.”

Tuberville said no additional information from Senate leadership about a timeline for when McConnell may come back or the status of his health has been given out internally to his colleagues.

“We didn’t get any information today in our luncheon,” Tuberville said Tuesday. “I don’t know what’s going on, but you know that’s not my business.”

Meanwhile, Kennedy vehemently defended McConnell, dismissing rumors that the 84-year-old senator was in a vegetative state, or even dead, as some had speculated a more serious condition than what was disclosed.

“Look, I believe Mitch,” Kennedy said. “I don’t believe all these stories that he’s brain dead and all of that. People need to get a life.”

In his post, McConnell claimed that his childhood fight with polio contributed to a fall that left him “briefly unconscious” and hospitalized last month — when some speculated he had suffered cardiac arrest.

He said he was then hit with a “mild case of pneumonia” while in recovery, extending the healing process.

“I think he had a fall, and Mitch is not 29 anymore,” Kennedy said. “And he’s recuperating from it, and he’ll be back as soon as he can.”

He continued, “That’s what he said, and I take him at his word.”

Fresh speculation surrounding McConnell’s health erupted Tuesday after conservative commentator Laura Loomer pointed to a newly published photograph of the senator’s wife, Elaine Chao, as raising additional questions about his condition.

The latest online debate comes despite McConnell’s office issuing its first detailed health update in more than a month earlier this week.

Loomer shared a photograph showing Chao leaving the rehabilitation facility where McConnell is recovering while wearing a surgical mask, sunglasses and a long navy trench coat.

“Mitch McConnell’s wife Coco Chao was seen leaving the hospital today to visit her husband while wearing a mask,” Loomer wrote on X.

“Who on earth is still wearing a mask?”

Loomer argued the photograph suggested McConnell’s condition may be more serious than publicly disclosed.

“This is more evidence that McConnell’s health is so poor they are making people around him mask up.”

She also questioned why Chao was not wearing a mask in the photograph McConnell’s office released Sunday.

“Why wasn’t she wearing a mask in the photo McConnell’s staff released the other day? Just more evidence it was an AI photo or an older photo,” Loomer wrote.

The senator’s office released a statement Sunday saying the 84-year-old Republican remains hospitalized after suffering a fall that caused him to lose consciousness.

According to the statement, McConnell did not suffer a heart attack or stroke, did not break any bones and was diagnosed with a mild case of pneumonia.

McConnell said he continues recovering in a rehabilitation facility and is making “continued progress.”

The statement was accompanied by a photograph showing McConnell sitting upright in a hospital bed alongside Chao.

Almost immediately, some social media users questioned whether the image was authentic.

McConnell has not appeared publicly since June 14.
